Department Events

Welcome Party for the Sophomore and Undergraduate–Graduate Students Mentoring Program

In March, a welcoming party for students participating in the mentoring program is held. All students of the CSE department gather with the freshmen to promote a friendly relationship among the students. The attendees also have the opportunity to meet with their academic advisors and exchange thoughts with their mentors in a relaxed environment.

Extracurricular Education in CSE (ComSee)

ComSee is held every year in May at a holiday resort outside Seoul. In this event, professors, graduate, as well as undergraduate students meet together to promote friendship and strengthen the department's spirit through fun team competitions and outdoor sports such as soccer, foot volleyball, and badminton. The “talk with the professor" event gives the students the chance to have an open conversation with professors about campus life, selection of their major, career planning after graduation.

SNU CSE International Luncheon

The SNU CSE International Luncheon is one of the events held to help international students quickly adapt to CSE, SNU, and life in Korea. International faculty members and domestic students present topics such as “your life in SNU”, “how to get a work permit”to international students. Information about lectures and scholarship programs and free discussions help the international students to feel at home in CSE very quickly.

Major Entry Presentation

In November, freshmen who are unsure which major to choose can attend the Major Entry Presentation. The event presents information about the curriculum of the courses and main events during undergraduate studies. All members of the faculty and administration in the department of CSE make a big effort to help students select their major.

SNU Computing Research Forum

The SNU Computing Research Forum provides an opportunity for businesses and society to actively transfer and apply the newest research results of the CSE department. The last event, held in 2010, began with the congratulatory address of Mr. Haeseok Oh, special advisor of the Korean Presidential Residence. Keynote speeches were given by Mr. Eoryeong Lee, advisor for the Joongang Daily Newspaper, and Mr. Heungnam Kim, director of ETRI. About 450 business people, professors and students participated in talks where recent research results of students and faculty members of CSE were presented with great enthusiasm.

Distinguished Lecture Series

In the Distinguished Lecture Series accomplished scholars present their achievements in fields related to computer science. This lecture series started in 2008 and was held regularly since then.

Future Computer Engineer Camp

The Future Computer Engineer camp is a 3-day summer camp held annually for science high school students across the country. In the camp, high school students have the chance to meet with faculty members and outstanding students from CSE and learn the basics about computer science andcomputer programming. This experience will help the students to make a better choice about their future career.

CS4HS (Computer Science for High School)

CS4HS is one of the projects initiated by the department of CSE to spark the interest of high school students in the challenges of computer science. The program also helps CS teachers to setup courses that are in line with the university's and the computer industry's needs.

SNU Mobile Service and Software Contest

The SNU Mobile Service and Software Contest, hosted by the SNU Mobile App Center, is a competition where teams design, program, and develop mobile applications. The best apps are selected and demonstrated in front of the public with prizes for the top three. Leading Korean companies such as SKT, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics regularly attend the award ceremony. Talks on future mobile smartphone trends are given, and SNU CSE members can get information about the companies and their newest products.

Student Activities

Freshmen Welcoming Party

In February, a welcome party for freshmen is organized by the students' union. Many freshmen students get to know senior students in CSE at this event.

MT

In April, the best time to enjoy Spring, students in the same grade go on a membership training (MT) trip together. MT helps students develop friendship and the unity among students in the same grade.

SNU CSE Computer Exhibition

In September, students present their team projects in competition of the best students project awards. The exhibition and competition stimulate students' critical and innovative thinking and improve their computer engineering skills.

CSE Night

In November, all CSE members, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members and administrators, gather to enjoy the night of Autumn. This event strengthens the unity among members in CSE while enjoying talent shows including band performances and singing contests. Members also enjoy photos taken at the CSE events throughout the year, recollecting memories and talking about events in the past.

Orientation

Talk on academic affairs, living in Seoul, SNU Buddy and SISA (SNU International Students Association). Q&A session follows.

International Night

  • Date: Mid of November
  • Time: 6:30pm
  • Location: Faculty house

International Poster Competion for the exhibition of master degree or doctoral degree students’ research poster and information on SNU College of engineering students and faculty members.

CSE International Luncheon

  • Date: Mid of March
  • Time: 12pm – 2pm
  • Location: 301 or 302 Engineering Education Building
